The Formal Visual Inspection
We first verify that the equipment is installed and operated in accordance with the manufacturer's instructions, and that the correct voltage, frequency and current requirements have been met.
We then assess the suitability of the equipment for the environment in which it is used, for example a domestic hairdryer may not be suitable for use in a manufacturing environment.
We make sure that there is a means of switching the appliance in normal use and in an emergency as well as for maintenance.
We perform visual checks on the equipment and its lead, making sure to identify any signs of wear or damage to the insulation, any other signs of damage that could affect operation and any signs of overheating.
We then dismantle the plug (if not a moulded type) and check for signs of overheating, correct termination of the wires, correct clamping of the flex and correct type and rating of fuse. If we find a fault with the plug or fuse, then we will replace it at no extra cost (240V square pin plugs only, not the industrial round pin plugs).
We then record the result of the formal visual inspection in the test register. If any item fails the inspection, we will attach a failed sticker and bring it to your attention so that it can be repaired or replaced.
